Pre-Conference Activity

One of the features of the 2011 National Healthy Homes Conference is a special event designed to illustrate what goes into transforming unhealthy houses into safe and healthy homes. This is an opportunity for conference participants to lend their time and talents for a great cause.

HUD and Rebuilding Together, the nation's largest non-profit providing healthy homes interventions, will lead a two-day "Rebuilding" pre-conference event on Saturday and Sunday, June 18th and 19th, in the Barnum neighborhood of Denver. More than 300 volunteers will come together to provide critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and other improvements to fifteen Denver homes.

Volunteers from several local organizations will make this event possible, including individuals from: Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, GroundWorks Denver, HUD, National Jewish Hospital, Northeast Denver Housing Authority, City of Denver and the National Association of Home Builders Remodelers Council, as well as tradespeople from many local remodeling companies. These volunteer partners will demonstrate how communities evolve when people committed to change come together to make it happen.

"Building a Healthy Neighborhood" will end on Sunday afternoon with a celebration for Barnum residents and event volunteers. This will be a time to celebrate the accomplishments of the weekend, as well as a time to get to know the families that benefited. During the Conference, organizers will showcase several homes that have been made healthier and safer because of the contributions of time and talent from industry leaders.

Join in this pre-conference event and experience the joy of rebuilding a neighborhood one healthy house at a time. While there is no cost to participate, pre-registration is required and is limited to the first 250 volunteers that sign-up. When you register for the full conference, you may also sign-up for this event. Someone will contact you once your application has been received.
